Abstract
FURROW irrigation systems are more
difficult to automate than border
and other surface flooding systems, and
therefore have received less attention
in automatic irrigation development.
Border systems are easy to automate
because the field topography allows the
stream of water to be evenly distributed
over the soil surface. When furrows are
used, however, the irrigation stream
must be uniformly divided into many
small streams directed into individual
furrows. This requires furrow flow
regulating devices or controls, in addition
to check and turnout structures.
