	bibo:abstract "SUGAR beet companies, state experiment\nstations, and the USDA Agricultural\nResearch Service use replicated\nplots to evaluate sugar beet yields as\ninfluenced by varieties, fertilizers,\nwater-management practices, etc. As a\nresult, many people need some type\nof sugar-beet, plot-harvesting equipment.\nPlots frequently are up to 50 ft\nin length from which two to eight\nrows may be harvested. Harvesting\nsugar-beet plots by hand involves a\ngreat deal of manual labor. Beets are\nfirst undercut, then pulled and topped\nby hand, piled in the center of the\nplot, counted as they are placed in a\nwire basket, and lifted by hand to a\nscale for weighing.
